The Chiikawa movie The Secret of Mermaid Island (Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu), based on Nagano's beloved manga, is getting a spotlight on Fuji TV's anime talk show AnimeDama on August 27 at 24:45 JST.

What's AnimeDama?

AnimeDama is a weekly anime recommendation program hosted by veteran entertainer Yukiji Higashino. The show dives into the latest anime releases, featuring celebrity guests who share their genuine opinions and reactions.

This Episode's Lineup

This week's episode features two new guests:

  • Renga Nakamura (KEY TO LIT) — appears for the first time on the show and is featured heavily in the Chiikawa movie segment
  • Ryoitaro Shuga (Panther) — also making his debut, and he's a self-proclaimed manga and anime enthusiast

Chiikawa Segment

The show's main Chiikawa feature includes:

  • Commentary VTR from Takashi Uchiumi (Milk Boy), a known Chiikawa fan, who passionately shares his review of the movie
  • Nakamura's own favorite scene picks — he particularly resonated with a scene involving Chiikawa and Momonga at a secondhand bookshop (Nakamura is a known Momonga fan)
  • A lively discussion between Higashino and Nakamura about the film's direction

Shuga, watching from the studio, was so inspired that he said after recording, "I'm definitely going to see it!"

Other Segments on This Episode

  • "Thunder 3" fan talk — Nakamura's current "strongest push" anime
  • "The Faraway Paladin" Season 2 preview with CloverWorks producer Shota Uehara
  • "Dark Machine The Animation" and "Hotaru no Yomeiri" fall season previews
  • Sazae-san exhibition coverage at the Hasegawa Machiko Museum in Tokyo with guests Tsuutribe

Fun Fact

Shuga (from Panther) mentioned he's from Nerima, Tokyo — the same district as Doraemon — and expressed interest in doing an anime pilgrimage location shoot in Nerima or Suginami, areas packed with historic anime studios. He also visited Hachioji and Hannou in Saitama for AnoHana pilgrimages!

*AnimeDama airs Thursdays at 24:45 on Fuji TV — mark your calendars if you want to catch the Chiikawa segment. And hey, if Shuga is going to see it, that's all the recommendation I need.
